-
Walking carefully along the tracks for so long,
Only to find I could never reach the other's heart.
In the end, it was all an illusion.
We can never understand each other one hundred percent.
Perhaps it is like Sisyphus, as Camus wrote—
Pushing a boulder up the mountain, knowing it is in vain.
And yet, we keep trying in our own ways,
Attempting to get just a little bit closer.
Never arriving,
But never losing meaning.
In the vast universe, lonely hearts scatter like stars.

During my visit to Shuiyang Forest in 2018, I captured this reference material at night using a long exposure and a headlamp for lighting. |
"People can never completely understand one another."
As I grow older, I find myself agreeing more and more with that line from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
The grand illusion depicted in The Matrix,
my trekking through the sunken beauty of the Wangyang Forest,
the abandoned Halun Railway on Mount Mugua,
Wu Bai’s song "Norwegian Forest,"
and that poignant quote from the movie The Great Buddha+:
"Humans can travel to the moon, yet we can never enter another person's inner universe."
Along with Sisyphus’s myth, they have all contributed to the birth of Broken Rails III. Intertwined, they grew into this landscape within the painting, becoming those solitary stars floating in the deep void of space.

About the Character in the Painting "The Nameless Little Guy"
"The Nameless Little Guy," a character brought to life by artist Lin Bao Ling in 2006, is nameless, naked, scarred, and pupilless, characterized by deep dark circles around his eyes and a lack of fingers. Constantly wandering through the night, he sometimes weeps, sometimes smiles, at times lost in bewilderment, and at others, fiercely resilient. He not only gropes through the darkness in search of light and warmth, but also strives to create them himself, learning to coexist with the dark.
