「描繪夜，是為了擁抱夜，也為了更懂得珍惜光。」——林葆靈

台灣藝術家林葆靈的創作以繪畫為核心，延伸至立體創作。二十幾年來，皆以夜間情境中的光影作為題材——在明暗流動之間觀察、思考，學習欣賞無常之美。他或描繪純粹的夜間景物，或透過總在夜晚出沒的自創角色——「沒有名字的小傢伙」，呈現孤獨、脆弱與內在情感的流動，回應當代的生存處境。其創作常揉合動漫、文學、哲學、攝影與藝術史等元素，以及個人的生命經驗與思考，轉化為帶有敘事性的當代圖像。

國立臺灣美術館館長陳貺怡曾於〈夜世界——林葆靈的夜景繪畫〉中寫道：「他的夜威脅著我們，卻也保護著我們；啟發著我們，並引我們再發現夜的無窮魅力。」

Lin Bao-Ling (b. 1981, Taipei)

Taiwanese artist Lin Bao Ling, centers his practice on painting while also extending into sculptural and three-dimensional works. For over two decades, he has explored the interplay of light and shadow within nocturnal settings—observing, contemplating, and learning to appreciate the beauty of impermanence through the shifting balance between darkness and illumination. He either depicts pure nighttime landscapes or, through his self-created character “Nameless Little Guy,” who always appears at night, expresses loneliness, vulnerability, and the flow of inner emotions, responding to the existential conditions of contemporary life. 

His works often weave together elements from anime and manga, literature, philosophy, photography, and art history with personal experiences and reflections, transforming them into new narrative-driven contemporary images.

Director of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Chen Kuang Yi once wrote in The Night World—Lin Bao Ling’s Night Paintings:

“His night threatens us, yet also protects us; it inspires us, and leads us to rediscover the boundless allure of the night.”
