清瘦蒼白的外表，給人的第一印象是文靜與內向，
更別提陽光、熱血等形容詞...
但沒想到這樣的葆靈...竟然是位超熱愛爬山...樂於擁抱大自然的陽光男孩ㄚ 

His slender, pale appearance gives a first impression of quietness and introversion—
hardly the image one would associate with words like sunshine or passion…
Yet unexpectedly, Bao Ling turns out to be an avid mountain climber—
a sunny boy who wholeheartedly embraces nature!

葆靈是在2008金車青年油畫獎中認識的，
當時以繪畫西門紅樓奪得優選，
當時只覺得他處理畫面的色溫和時間流動性特殊而明顯，
但沒想到這已是他最涵蓄的表現手法了...

I first came to know Bao Ling through the 2008 King Car Young Oil Painting Award,
where he received an Honorable Mention for his painting of the Red House in Ximending.
At the time, I simply felt that his handling of color temperature and the sense of temporal flow within the picture plane was distinctive and pronounced. Little did I realize that this was already his most restrained mode of expression…

也許是因為從小就在家中自學，
一直到13歲才負笈新加坡，在父親前衛的教育理念下，
特殊的學習成長環境，讓葆靈保有最珍貴的個人特色，
不論在待人處世或作品的呈現上，
都不拘膩於舊有成見，自有一套理論和觀點，
跟他相處起來很舒服，看他的作品很自在，
可是卻強烈感受得到他對生命與創作的熱情...

Perhaps because he was homeschooled from a young age and did not leave for Singapore to study until the age of thirteen, under his father’s progressive educational philosophy, Bao Ling grew up in an unconventional learning environment. This allowed him to retain his most precious personal traits. Whether in his way of interacting with others or in the presentation of his work, he is never confined by established preconceptions. He has his own theories and perspectives. Being around him feels comfortable; viewing his work feels at ease—yet one can strongly sense his passion for life and for creation.

總是站在極端兩側的中間，
在夜裡的城市中，搜尋光影...
在擁擠的街道裡，脫離人群...
在西畫的色彩中，流動墨白...
在水墨的構圖中，展現空間...

He always seems to stand in the middle of two extremes—
searching for light and shadow in the city at night…
detaching from the crowd within congested streets…
letting ink-like whites flow within the colors of Western painting…
revealing spatial depth within the compositions of ink painting…

這是葆靈特有的創作語言
我一直覺得，他要說的很簡單，
就像透過遙遠視線，關注著光影的交集...
那麼遠又那麼近...
我想只有擁有麼一個獨特生活經歷的創作者，
才可以將一般認為的矛盾與衝突，結合的如此恰當...

This is Bao Ling’s unique creative language.
I have always felt that what he wishes to say is quite simple—like gazing from afar, observing the intersections of light and shadow…
So distant, yet so near…
I believe only a creator with such singular life experiences could reconcile what is commonly perceived as contradiction and conflict so seamlessly.

夜裡光影的閃爍，許多看不清，
但同時也凸顯了許多...
那些許多，架構出一個在時間流動中的靜止風景...
而人也身在其中...
相信葆靈一輩子都會繼續創作下去...
現在只是個開端...未來葆靈會走進城市迷宮中的哪裡 ?

我很期待...

The flickering light and shadow of the night conceal much from view, yet at the same time they illuminate so much.
All those fragments construct a still landscape within the flow of time—
and we ourselves exist within it.

I believe Bao Ling will continue creating throughout his lifetime.
This is merely the beginning…
Where will he venture next within the labyrinth of the city?
I look forward to it with great anticipation.
