[聯展] Original Prints 2013

Original Prints 2013 will feature a new series of mixed media works by nine artists including Esther Ng, Marisa Keller, Sally Williams, Lin BaoLing, Frances
Alleblas, Izumi Ueda Yuu, Alison Wilson, Kelly Reedy and Lin Yushan. The artists will present abstract and representational works that explore personal concepts and interpretations created in relief print, etching, monotype, lithography, stencil and digital print and combined with drawing, painting and
collage.

Original Prints is a returning yearly event where a group of international, mostly Singapore based artists present a new series of prints. Now in its 4th year
Original Prints was initiated by artist and printmaker Marisa Keller to create opportunities for fellow artists to incorporate traditional and digital printmaking in their work and to introduce and present new developments in printmaking by independent artists to the public.

Biography – Artists participating in Original Prints 2013

Marisa Keller (Netherlands) has lived and worked in Singapore since 1993 and runs the Art and Printmaking Studio since 2006. She holds a Master of Fine Arts, (printmaking) of RMIT University, Melbourne Her paintings, prints and video installations were shown in Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands,
Poland, Bulgaria, USA and Australia. Her prints were exhibited at the International Print Triennial In Krakow Poland in 2009 and 2012 and are included in the 2013 International Print show at the Horst-Janssen Museum, Oldenburg,Germany. She curated several printmaking shows in Singapore. She initiated and organizes the ‘Original Prints’ project to promote printmaking and prints among fellow artists and the general public in Singapore. Her works can be found in numerous private and corporate collections including Changi General Hospital, Shell Company and Mandarin Hotel in Jakarta and in the collection of the contemporary art museum in Krakow, Poland.

Lin Bao Ling (Taiwan) is known for his “illuminated” urban night paintings. In 2006, he graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, with BA (Hons) in Fine Arts, and is currently pursuing a PhD in ink painting at National Taiwan Normal University. He has received many awards, including the 2010/2011 Freeman Foundation Asian Artist Fellowship. He has exhibited in USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, and Taiwan. He has had ten solo exhibitions, and numerous group exhibitions. His 10th solo exhibition was held in the Soka Art Center Tainan, Taiwan, in March 2013.

Alison Wilson (UK) received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1985 and studied printmaking at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). Her art practice encompasses printmaking, drawing and papermaking, and reflects her interest in the human desire to interact with, interpret and make a mark on the natural landscape. Most recently she has been researching the cultural and social impact of volcanic landscapes. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Spain and Singapore.

Esther Ng (Singapore) is a printmaker from Singapore who graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with Diploma in Fine Arts (Distinction) in 2001. Since then, she has exhibited in Singapore and Malaysia and is known for creating prints using monotype and intaglio techniques to explore the concept of boundaries. In this new series for OP12, Esther is exploring new expressions and merging her love of lines, printmaking and Chinese calligraphy into one. Her works can be found in private collections in Singapore, Korea, Australia and United States.

Izumi Ueda Yuu (Japan)graduated with a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1995. She began exhibiting her work in the Washington D.C./ Baltimore area in 1985. She won several Maryland State and Baltimore City Individual Artist’s awards. From 1995 to 2007 she lived, worked and exhibited in Japan. She now lives and works in Singapore. She had solo exhibitions at NIE Singapore in 2009, Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2010 and Camera Lenta Lisbon in 2012. Her work is in numerous collections in the US, Canada, Europe, Malaysia and Japan. Her work is about making connection with art and everyday life. Being innovative with the materials she uses and being technically unique are both important to her.

Kelly Reedy (USA)is a Symbolist. She imbues her figurative works with underlying meanings and personal narratives, yet ties them firmly to universal preoccupations. Reedy obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin, USA in 1985, before furthering her education at the L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and L’Ecole du Louvre in Paris, France. Her work has been exhibited in Paris, Chicago and Berlin and locally at
the Jendela Visual Arts Space, Esplanade, the Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Alliance Française and Sculpture Square. In 2006 she opened Studio Arts in Wessex Estate, an artist’s space and workshop venue.

Sally Williams (UK) started printmaking in 1968 on the Foundation Course at Walthamstow College of Art, London. She completed a BA Art and Design at Coventry College of Art in 1971, followed by a Postgraduate Course at Goldsmiths College, University of London. At present Sally is working in the UK where she is a member of The Cardiff Print Workshop. She has also worked in Savannah, USA and Singapore, where she extended her practice in order to master non toxic methods. Primarily Sally uses etching to explore the effects of light, mood and atmosphere.

Lin Yushan (Singapore) is a Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, design and media graduate. She is currently experimenting with different mediums to expand her illustrations and aspires to be a multi-disciplinary designer. Shan has exhibited her works in 2011 at Noise Singapore The Apprentice Program (TAP), 100 Friends 100 Artists 100 Inspiration exhibition, in 2012 at Transmission: Kaleidoscope, The Nature of Print and 100 Friends 100 Artists 100 Dreams exhibition.

Frances Alleblas (Netherlands) graduated with a BA in Fine Art at the ‘Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam. She also studied art at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Hawai’i and at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Java, Indonesia. Frances lives and works in Indonesia and Singapore since 1999. Her drawings are exhibited in the Netherlands, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Indonesia and Singapore. The drawings have a figurative atmosphere and show a world in which often-unexpected relations between different elements confront the viewer with unclear feelings and certain confusion. The protagonists, whether human or animal, are enigmatic, elusive as seem absorbed in their own world
