這次的委託製作案我首次嘗試使用可摻水的油畫顏料 (water soluble oils / water-mixable oil Paint)
感覺和一般的/傳統的油畫顏料沒有不同
但可摻水 無須使用松節油之類的調和油
(要使用亦可 但之後就不能再與水調合)

蠻神奇的

洗筆也相對容易多了
傳統油彩如不用松節油總是很不好洗淨
而我都是用洗碟劑
較費時費事

我用的是Royal Talens 的Van Gogh H2Oil根據產品簡介
該是比傳統油畫顏料乾的快
但我實際使用的結果
似乎是乾的比較慢
一層黑色竟然花了數天才乾

松節油是公認有毒的
且有強烈的氣味
無須使用松節油
是可摻水的油畫顏料之一大優點

New Year Card Illustration for Marina Mandarin Singapore

I was commissioned by Marina Mandarin Singapore to create a painting for its New Year card.

After several rounds of communication and revisions, it was finally completed successfully. The team at Marina Mandarin was very pleased with the result, which was a great relief to me. :)

The illustration will be printed on their 2009 New Year cards.

For this commission, I tried water-mixable oil paints for the first time.

They feel no different from ordinary/traditional oil paints, but they can be mixed with water, so there is no need to use turpentine or other solvents.

(You can still use them if you want, but once you do, you can no longer mix the paint with water.)

Quite amazing.

Cleaning the brushes is also much easier.

Traditional oil paint is always quite difficult to clean without using turpentine. I usually use dishwashing detergent instead, which takes considerably more time and effort.

The paint I used was Van Gogh H2Oil by Royal Talens. According to the product description, it is supposed to dry faster than traditional oil paint.

However, based on my actual experience, it seemed to dry more slowly.

One layer of black paint actually took several days to dry.

Turpentine is widely recognized as toxic and also has a strong smell.

Not having to use turpentine is certainly one of the major advantages of water-mixable oil paints.
