MARINA MANDARIN APPOINTS ITS THIRD ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
LIN BAO LING
Following the highly successful launch of its unique Artist-in-residence program in 2006, the Marina Mandarin continues its collaboration with art consultancy Asian Art Options, to appoint its third Resident Artist – Lin Bao Ling
Lin Bao Ling, a graduate of Lasalle-SIA, is noted for his distinctive and highly evocative paintings of nocturnal cityscapes. His “illuminated” paintings of the night capture the ironic essence and complexities of modern cities.
Lin possesses a deep fascination with the symbolic aspect of light or lack thereof, within a nocturnal landscape. He often refers to light as symbolizing a form of hope and desire, which is visually evident in his thoughtful and deliberate use of brilliant colours. Yet, it is his incandescent portrayal of light in the midst of its dark surroundings that produces paintings that are both contemplative yet energetic at the same time.

Residency Period: February to July 2008

Tue, Thu & Sat, 1 pm to 6 pm

Bulletin has arrived.
In the blink of an eye, it’s already been a month since moving into the studio at Marina Mandarin Hotel.
The pressure is slowly building
Time is moving faster and faster
Creating is still hard
It’s a delightful kind of torment
AAO has given me so much help, and so has Marina Mandarin — everyone there is warm, friendly, and courteous. It really touched me.
A few days ago, the hotel’s photographer came to the studio to take photos of me. I’ve always felt a bit awkward in front of the camera, but there was no avoiding it — I’ll just have to get used to being camera shy, little by little.
